Hi Jess! Glad to have you here with us!! To answer your question, I really think it all has to do with personal conviction. Personally, I was convicted on nail polish, so to wear clear makes me feel like I'm still wearing it. I also feel that it draws attention to them because of it being shiny. However, I know some awesome awesome awesome women of God that have their nails and toes french manicured and they are ok with it. If you feel ok in your spirit about wearing it, then it's ok. But what is ok for one saint may not be ok for another.

I agree, that is something you would have to go with your convictions on. I used to have EXTREMELY weak nails, that wouldn't grow at all. They constantly flaked and tore, causing PAIN, so I wore clear nail polish to strengthen/protect them. Now that I have gotten a little older, I have suddenly gotten stronger nails that I find myself having to actually cut because they are too long!
It probably has something to do with my healthier lifestyle. So now I don't need it and don't wear it. I just rub good lotion into my nails & cuticles when I put it on my hands.

Nope from here too . I too say pray, show Jesus your hands and ask Him how he feels about it.
You know, it's a funny thing, I received the Holy Ghost in the 70's and no one I ever knew used it and at youth camps, rallies, etc. I never saw it. My husband was raised in UPC since the age of 2, his parents moved from IL to CA to attend Bible college and then they traveled the United States and Canada evangelizing for about 5 years. He never knew of any women wearing it (except those who left the church). When my husband and I married and evangelized we never saw it. Others people may have seen it, but we never came across it.
Then, after the ministers of the UPCI voted in video, which was not supposed to be used for entertainment, and after some time passed and the ministers and saints started watching Hollywood type programs, then (about 15 years ago), the wearing of clear nail polish started showing up and now the French Manicure has come into fashion. Hmmm, I think many things are connected, but that our video viewing has helped change much by desensitizing us.
Below is an excerpt from Wikipedia, on history and health of polish.......
It is unclear exactly how the practice of coloring nails progressed following these ancient beginnings. By the turn of the 19th century, nails were tinted with scented red oils and polished or buffed with a chamois cloth, rather than simply painted. Even a century later, women still pursued a polished, rather than painted, look by massaging tinted powders and creams into their nails, then buffing them shiny. One such polishing product sold around this time was Graf’s Hyglo nail polish paste. Some women during this period painted their nails using a clear, glossy varnish applied with camel-hair brushes. When automobile paint was created around 1920, it inspired the introduction of colored nail enamels. Michelle Ménard is credited with inventing the beginnings of our modern day colored nail lacquers.
Constituents
Most nail polishes are made of nitrocellulose dissolved in a solvent and either left clear or colored with various pigments. Basic components included are: film forming agents, resins and plasticizers, solvents, and coloring agents.
Nail polish makers have been under pressure to reduce or eliminate potentially toxic ingredients, including phthalates, toluene, and formaldehyde, from their nail polish. In September 2006, several makers agreed to phase out dibutyl phthalate, which has been linked to testicular problems in lab animals and humans, in updated formulations. Though some makers recently agreed to eliminate formaldehyde from their products, others still use the chemical.

Liked your answer Sis Tammie
nothings been preached to me about clear polish. I think it comes down to ones own convictions. I personally do not wear it for it is still polish and your still brushing it. I don't do the french manicure neither for the same reasons. I also see it as a vanity thing that I choose not to do. Just pray about

I so very much agree. I do have clear nail polish here, but it's for my nylons when I get a run to stop it!! LOL And believe me, it works wonders!!! I went from bright polish to french manicures because they were more natural looking, but I just don't want anything on my nails unless it's anointing oil!!!

My goodness! I am so glad to see this! I have a friend that is constantly asking me to go with her for a mani/pedi. UGH! I'm an RN and having been in nursing i never wanted anything on my hands that could be a contaminate. Not to mention, I think I look silly with colored nails.
Clear polish can be good if you don't depend on it to feel good about your appearance. It's very much up to you and God.

well if you abosolutely need good looking nails I have a couple of things hear
Nail buffer lot cheaper than nail polish or strengthener and lasts longer and doesn't draw attention unless somebody's looking closely (99 cents at walmart)
for nails that need strength I have a cream i bought at walmart that helps that it's called hard as hoofs or something like that. I hate the feel of stuff on my nails and this works for me (also can be found at walmart)

I don't think much of it......however my hands will never win the manicure of the year award.....maybe the opposite award.....the "before" picture if you will. Anyway, I love to see women with pretty nails, but not polished nails...I think like Dana said a good buffer will shine them up just fine w/o adding clear polish. I don't consider "hard as nails" polish, but rather a treatment for nails. JMHO Oh and in church or out of church...if they're going to color their nails.....nothing is ugler than that chipped color that looks like it was done months ago, but they haven't gotton around to redoing it.....AHHHHHHHHHHHHH (I have issues) LOL

WOW That is great Jane.... We can have issues together!!! I have lots of them!!!!!! Ya'll want me to share? I mean they could become contagious ya know!!! LOL
I did see that Tabitha said "me" for an I earlier! Now talk about rubben off on someone! LOL
Re: Clear Nail Polish « Reply #14 on Sept 18, 2008, 7:21pm »
Oh Jane, I can SO relate. I can't stand that either!!! I know you may not have the time to repaint them, but it literally takes 30 seconds to swab a cotton ball with remover and take it off. The Lord has truly blessed me so much that my natural nail looks like a french manicure and I put nothing on them. No strengthener, no polish, no nothin! But, if I did need strengthener I do feel that it is different than polish because most of them are just an oil you rub into your cuticles. (I wonder if you could anoint that strengthener oil when putting it on) Hmmmm....

I use Burt's Bees cuticle oil on my hands if they are really dry... I bought a chamois buffer for my nails, it worked really well... but.... my beagles also loved the smell and they literally ate it... little brats...

We never have used any type of polish on our hands. But a way to get pretty nails ( and strong) is to soak them for five minutes in hot water and about a cap full of lemon juice. It really gives them healthy appearance.

I have heard this, but haven't tried it yet! Anybody know if it really works?
Also, I know calcium tablets and prenatal tablets really strengthen your nails and help them grow.
The calcium really works (I do know, I take them, for something else though. But it does help your nails.), and the prenatal pills are awesome for hair, nails and skin.

I too choose not to wear nail polish, but if its the shiny look you want and feel convicted over it, they make nail buffers you can buy them just about anywhere, CVS where ever, most have files on one side them a buffer on the other and it puts a shine to your nails.

I use a nail buffer for my finger nails. Because I play violin I have to keep them short but my nails don't look very healthy so I buff them with a seven step buffer but I only do it once a week or even every other week. But I wear open shoes every day it's warm enough to so I paint my toenails with a clear polish because they dont look that great.

I've read that fingernails are made of layers of keratin, a kind of protein. So, I would think that if you wanted nicer nails, you would have to eat more protein.
