homeschool help pls!! « Thread Started on Sept 10, 2009, 2:21pm »
This is our 3rd day into homeschooling and love it! My daughter is 7 and in the 2nd grade, my question is how do i know what to teach her at what times? Im trying to get on a schedule, so like we dont study to many things at one time in a certain subject, like in science, just in the past few days we have studied about plants/bugs and mammals. Im worried because i dont want to clutter up her mind with to many topics in one subject, whats the best way to go about this? Should we study one thing per week, like in science, one week it be about planets, the next about animals ect, ect. Im new to homeschooling and im scared im going to mess up teaching my kids, can somebody who has homeschooled little ones include me in on how you did it each day with each subject? Im needing ideas also for these subjects: lang. arts, science, social studies, math, and art. Im not trying to be a pest but i love the thought of teaching my kids instead of strangers at school. we have about 10-15 different workbooks right now, some of them i like some i dont like, i also been printing her some work from the internet, im just worried how to take this at a steady pace, i dont want to clutter her mind with to much at once in each subject......can someone please help me? Also i have a pre-schooler and although i dont have to school him yet, i want to. Any ideas?

Well don't worry you'll be able to tell if you're giving her too much. You'll see after all who knows your kids better than you Every one has to figure out what to do on their own. My stepmom homeschools and she works out a schedule at the begining of the week. The kids wake up and know what to do if they can do it by themselves then she checks it. You'll need to play around and figure out what works best for you. You'll be fine! (and so will you kids lol) As for your pre-schooler just teach him to read for now and colors and numbers just the basics.

Are you using a particular cirriculum? This is my first year to homeschool my 5th grader, however she attended a Christian School that used homeschool based cirriculum. We use abeka and I absolutely LOVE it. I know it challenges her because it is not "easy", and it is so organized. It has all the tools a parent needs in the way of tracking and organizing lessons. She is watching classes steaming on the internet. I love her being at home with me and it allows me to be better able to see when she needs more help with certain things. I feel confident that she is getting a quality education too. God Bless You and Have Fun!

im not using any certain curriculum, im boucing back and forth between things, like some is printed from the internet some i make up on my own and some are from workbooks like abeka and some other kinds...also im wanting to know whats the best way to keep a record of my childs progress? Its just a bit confusing and all, what worries me the most is i dont really know when to go from one thing to the next.
